Ancient New England Patriots Head coach Bill Belichick thinks everyone loved Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold except the New York Jets.
Darnold was selected by the Jets with the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the team before eventually being traded to the Carolina Panthers.
He played two seasons with the Panthers and one year with the San Francisco 49ers before landing in Minnesota, where his career took off again.
Through the first three games, Darnold has 657 passing yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s coming off a game against the Houston Texans on Sunday where he had 181 passing yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Speaking of Darnold’s resurgence, Belichick praised the veteran quarterback, while lightly tackling the Jets.
“Everybody loved Darnold except the Jets,” Belichick said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “The people I talked to in Carolina really liked him. He was with the Rams, but not for very long. They liked him. I think they wanted to re-sign him. He was looking for more opportunities than playing behind Stafford.
“I know that Kevin [O’Connell] and some of the Minnesota coaches really like the guy too. It seems like the only people who didn’t like Darnold were on the Jets.
Darnold is currently 3-0 for the Vikings. There’s no denying he’s off to a great start, and only time will tell how much further he can carry that momentum this year.
