ARIZONA – Former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury still holds quarterback Kyler Murray in high regard.
“It’s been fun watching him,” said Kingsbury, who is now the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders.
Kingsbury – previously Murray’s head coach at Arizona – pounded the table for the Cardinals to draft him and served as his HC/OC in the desert before ultimately being fired after the 2022 season.
“At the end of last year, I thought you could see the confidence in the knee and I made a bunch of plays, played really well. And he played really well this season – they were a few games away from being undefeated,” Kingsbury continued. Murray.
“You see the speed, the quickness, the competitive nature is there. It’s awesome, I basically bet my whole career on what he would be and I still believe in it. It’s cool to see him play too although he is.”
Murray himself was asked about the possibility of facing his former head coach, but didn’t give much away during his media availability:
“To be honest, I’ve done it before. I have already competed against him and many other coaches that I have trained with. It doesn’t really affect me. My goal is to go out and win the game,” Murray said.
Kingsbury also reflected quite positively on his time in Arizona before being fired, joining USC’s staff last season and ultimately joining the NFL this offseason with Washington.
“No, not at all. That’s why I still have my house here. I love it. I will always be grateful to Michael [Bidwill] for giving me the opportunity he had. The first licensed college coach to get this opportunity and then the guys in this building [are] some of my closest friends,” Kingsbury said when asked if he had any negative feelings toward the Cardinals.
“Then you look at the team, James Conner or Budda [Baker]They still inspire me, such positive memories.”
