The NFL suspended Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller and Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. have four and five games, respectively, for violating his personal conduct policy.
In November, Miller surrendered to authorities in Texas after being charged with third-degree criminal assault of a pregnant woman. He called the situation was “exaggerated” and “100 percent false” in December.
Room landed on the commissioner’s exempt list in August after being charged with first-degree domestic violence.
Miller claimed in July that “no charges were ever filed and the case was closed,” according to the Associated Press. John Wawrow. His agent, Joby Branion, reiterated in a statement to Wawrow that the case was closed.
According to the police affidavit, the woman alleged that Miller put his hands on her neck twice and pulled out some of her hair. She said he also pushed her, causing her to fall into a chair.
The NFL declined to place the eight-time Pro Bowler on the commissioner’s exempt list while his case played out. He appeared in each of the Bills’ first four games, collecting five total tackles and three sacks.
Hall, meanwhile, is not eligible to play in Cleveland, so the second-round pick has yet to make his professional debut.
Hall’s fiancée initially alleged she and Hall had argued at a house they share on August 12. He allegedly dragged her outside and into their driveway. Later, after returning to the house, she said Hall put a gun to her head.
Lynna Lai of 3News reported Aug. 21 that the woman had recanted the handgun portion of her story. Hall afterwards pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.
Since he was on the commissioner’s exempt list, Hall’s suspension is made retroactively. He is eligible to join the team on October 7 before Cleveland’s Week 6 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Miller’s suspension is simpler. He won’t return to the field until Week 9, when the Bills host the Miami Dolphins.
