THE Washington Commanders made some roster changes Saturday ahead of Sunday’s Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns. The biggest move on Saturday was the return of Marcus Mariota by the Commanders.
Mariota was placed on the injured reserve list and missed the first four games due to two injuries suffered in training camp. First he strained a groin muscle, then he suddenly missed a practice with a pectoral injury and was placed on the IR list.
Two practice squad elevations were also announced Saturday afternoon: CB Kevon Seymour and WR Brycen Tremayne from the practice squad.
Tremayne’s elevation at this time is no surprise. WR Noah Brown suffered a groin injury and was unable to practice, and Dan Quinn declared him “out.” Additionally, Jamison Crowder, with his injured calf, was placed on the injured reserve list this week, meaning Crowder will miss four games. So, commanders had to raise a receiver.
Seymour may be high as it appears safety Tyler Owens likely won’t play against the Browns at this time. He injured his shin and missed practice, so the Commanders could activate safety Darrick Forrest, who has been inactive for the first four games.
There is growing hope that defensive end Efe Obada and rookie linebacker Jordan Magee will return from the injured list to the active roster. But it looks like these two players will have to wait another week.
One last question for this week. With the Commanders activating Mariota, will they keep four quarterbacks on their roster (including Sam Hartman)? Or will they make another roster move involving Hartman?
