Javion Cohen made the Cleveland Browns’ active 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie coming out of the preseason. But the former Alabama guard didn’t get much of a chance to play before the The Browns gave up him on Tuesday.
Cleveland was 11-6 and qualified for the playoffs in 2023. But the Browns have won just one of their five games in 2024 and began making personnel moves Tuesday.
In addition to Cohen, Cleveland also waived defensive tackle Sam Kamara and tight end Blake Whiteheart from the active roster and released linebacker Michael Barrett, running back Royce Freeman and offensive tackle Ricky Lee from the team training.
Cohen appeared in one game, taking the field for three special teams plays in the Browns’ 20-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on September 29.
Cohen played for Alabama during the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons before finishing his college career at Miami (Fla.).
Before joining the Crimson Tide, Cohen was a second-team All-State selection for Central-Phenix City’s AHSAA Class 7A championship team in 2018 and a first-team All-State selection in 2019, when the Red Devils were state runners-up. .
