The New Orleans Saints are dealing with injuries faster than the medical staff can compile an updated IR list. This is very unfortunate ahead of former coach Sean Payton’s visit to the Denver Broncos. Fortunately, a former Saints legend saw a lot of promise in rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler. Drew Brees published the reconnaissance reports when asked about Rattler’s debut as a rookie in place of Derek Carr.
“I saw Spencer Rattler exactly what I thought I saw,” Brees began. “(Rattler) is a guy who plays with a lot of confidence. The man can make all the throws. You just kind of have to make mistakes and overcome them, like any young player does.
Rattler, 24, completed 22 of 40 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brees wasn’t concerned about those second-half hiccups, which weren’t entirely on the rookie’s shoulders.
“This game started to get a little out of hand,” Brees admitted. “At the end of the third quarter, at the start of the fourth, you find yourself down by a few scores. You have to play much more aggressively to take risks you wouldn’t have taken otherwise. But man, this first half…it just shows how quickly things can change. It also shows you how explosive the (Saints) can be as a team.
Rattler will turn to keep things simple against the Denver Broncos, as Saints reporter John DeShazier put it.
“I would say, just relax in the pocket a little bit,” Rattler said. “Don’t try to overextend when you don’t need to. Listen to your feet and stay focused with each repetition throughout the game, regardless of the score. Take the completions and move the chains.

Spencer Rattler revealed the uniform combination the Saints will wear on Thursday. Who Dat Nation will be presented in appropriate retro editions to welcome Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos to the Big Easy.
Payton’s return, however, is secondary to the halftime festivities. New Orleans will need to be at their best on the field and in the stands as the game will also mark a special occasion. Drew Brees is officially inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame. Either Brees will bask in the glory with winning memories, or Rattler will have to go back to the drawing board.
