On a cold Thursday night, the Pueblo South Colts hosted the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs in a battle of league foes and city foes.
The Colts were looking to improve their record while the Bulldogs were looking for an upset victory.
In the end, Pueblo South came away with the victory over the Bulldogs 47-0 to improve to 5-2 on the season.
The Colts were led by quarterback Caeden Herrera who threw five touchdowns, including two to tight end David Dietz.

“I thought we did some things well on both sides of the ball,” head coach Ryan Goddard said of his team after the game.
“Our defense played well and offensively we struggled a little bit but we responded and got better as the game went on. I think it was important for us. We took what they gave us offensively and our kids just wanted to play hard and that’s what matters.
Pueblo South keeps pace with its quarterback, and Caeden Herrera was on top and has been in recent games.
“He’s so composed and he’s such a threat, both throwing the ball and running the football,” Goddard said. “He’s done a really good job of tackling the offense and taking them to a new level of play. He’s a good leader and he’s done a really good job this year of getting guys the ball when they were open and taking advantage of the situation we have. He found David Dietz like 3,000 times tonight, so that was nice.
“He’s a good football player. He’s got a high IQ. He’s going to be a good football player. He’s just got to keep looking for it right now.”

Dietz congratulated his team and his quarterback after the game.
“I think we did well. I think we played all three phases of the game, and our line did well, and we just came out and did what we’re supposed to do,” Dietz said. “We took care of business. I’m just trying to open up more for him (Herrera) and find places on the pitch. You have to give him credit, he nourished me.
With the easy part of their schedule behind them, Pueblo South now looks to challenge to finish their season by having two of the next three games on the road against tough opponents.
“We just have to keep getting better and better every week,” Dietz said. “We are playing the three best teams in our league, so this is our biggest challenge so far. We just have to continue to improve every week and play like the best version of ourselves right now.
Goddard stressed the importance of these next three games.
“We talked about it at the end, these next three games are going to be the top three opponents in our league that we play against,” Goddard said. “We’re looking forward to the challenge and thinking about how we can be the best version of ourselves, how we can improve as a football team. If we play hard, let’s see what can happen.
“We’re excited about the challenge ahead of us and we’re looking forward to hitting the road next week and playing Harrison and we’ll see where they’re at. But we’re going to take it one week at a time.”
Pueblo South (5-2) hits the road next week to face league opponent Harrison. Pueblo Centennial plays at home next week against Palmer.
