As the Houston Texans attempt to maximize the rookie contract window of budding star quarterback CJ Stroud, anything and everything is on the table if it helps the Texans achieve their goal of winning a Super Bowl.
And that includes ridiculously expensive trades for elite players like the one suggested by Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus.
In an article calling trade ideas a “fairy tale” ahead of the Nov. 5 deadline, Locker wants to see the Texans trade for the New York Giants superstar defensive lineman, Dexter Lawrence.
It would be highly unlikely that New York would move Lawrence, even if the team continues to lose. But a hypothetical landing spot could be Houston.
The Texans are incredibly well positioned at the edge rusher with Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., but the interior of their defensive line has been shoddy. The Texans rank 26th overall among defensive linemen, with their highest-rated IDL being Mario Edwards Jr. with an overall grade of 61.9.
The Texans would undoubtedly agree to bring in Lawrence, as would any team in the NFL. He is arguably the best interior defensive lineman in the league without Aaron Donald and would provide a huge boost to the Texans defense.
But, as Locker even notes, this is not a realistic scenario. There is absolutely no way the Giants are going to move on from a key 26-year-old defender who is crucial to New York emerging from its dark ages.
It’s a shame, because Lawrence deserves better than the dumpster fire he’s currently stuck in, but that’s just the reality of the situation.
