November 5 is the day.
As Americans flood the polls for a presidential election, the National Football League will have to announce a decision regarding the planned participation of the New York Jets in Week 11 of Sunday Night Football.
The struggling Jets are scheduled to visit the Indianapolis Colts in a primetime game on November 17 that looks more boring by the day. It almost seems like a game like this is the reason flexible scheduling exists in the first place. With Aaron Rodgers and New York physically fragile at 2-6 overall and Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson struggling, there’s no doubt the NFL has already begun discussing alternative possibilities.
Flexible scheduling rules require any SNF changes (between Weeks 5 and 13) to be made no later than 12 days before the original date, meaning the league will be able to see that weekend’s results before determining whether to must keep up with the Jets and Colts. or replace them with a more attractive option.
The Colts (4-4) will play Sunday night in Week 9 at the Minnesota Vikings. Do they really warrant two appearances in three weeks in the NFL’s prime time slot, the second coming against the disheveled Jets?
Aside from Gang Green being a major disappointment and the Colts not exactly being one of the most exciting teams in the league, there are three other reasons why the head-to-head could be left off the list SNF. There are currently two hot division rivalry matches scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET on November 17 and another at 4:05 p.m. ET.

Right now, it’s hard to argue that Jets-Colts is a more intriguing prime-time matchup than Packers-Bears, Steelers-Ravens, or 49ers-Seahawks. It almost seems too logical that the NFL would target one of these three games as a replacement for the current Week 11 SNF matchup.
In summary, Jets fans are encouraged to enjoy their team against the Houston Texans under the spotlight on Thursday Night Football this week, as the Oct. 31 home game may well be the team’s final appearance on Thursday Night Football. great viewing this season.
