The Los Angeles Chargers managed to get a big game from a wide receiver this past Sunday when Ladd McConkey surpassed 100 yards receiving and had two touchdowns. This made Chargers fans wonder aloud if the team now has a true No. 1 target in the passing game.
But even if they do, the general consensus is that the team still needs more in this department and that has been the case since the summer. The Chargers could still add a wide receiver before next week’s trade deadline (Mike Williams, anyone?), but otherwise the team could see wide receiver as its biggest need heading into the 2025 season.
The Cincinnati Bengals used their franchise tag on wide receiver Tee Higgins this offseason, signing him to a $21.8 million contract. But he will become a free agent again at the end of the season and the start of the new league year. Could the Chargers be in the market for Higgins?
Bleacher Report Scouting Service said yes. Each week, B/R scouts look at the biggest needs of all 32 teams, finding a solution the team could find right now as well as a solution in free agency next year and in the 2025 NFL Draft. They think Higgins coming to the Chargers makes sense.
Could the Chargers sign Tee Higgins in free agency in 2025?
At this point, Higgins has 29 receptions for 341 yards and three touchdowns this season. He is an integral part of what the Bengals do as their only wins this season have been in games he has played. Still, the Bengals might not get him back next year.

Without the franchise tag, Higgins likely would have signed elsewhere this year. He’s looking for a long-term deal and the Chargers might be a team willing to give him that, as it would give Justin Herbert a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver, something this team currently lacks. Higgins would be a No. 1 option on most teams around the league, but will still play second fiddle to Ja’Marr Chase in Cincy.
There’s still plenty of time between now and the start of free agency next year and a lot that can still take place, but it’s something to put on your list of long-term scenarios to keep an eye on .
