It’s one thing to see the dejected, sullen faces of veteran players who have been through this before.
As frustrated as Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns appeared to be on Sunday, shortly after the Giants lost for the seventh time in nine games this season, this was not a new development for them. Presumably they know how to handle this.
There can be no such assumption for the young players on the roster. How they handle failure after failure, week after week, is something to watch if the Giants continue to turn their weekends into unsuccessful efforts.
Lawrence has been with the Giants since 2019, and his only winning season during that span came in 2022. For the Giants to be 2-7 is nothing he hasn’t experienced before. It’s nothing that anyone around the Giants knows about. In five of the last eight years, they have been 2-7 after nine games. Other seasons saw them go 1-8 (2017) and 3-6 (2021). The outlier occurred in 2022, when the Giants were 7-2 after nine games.
