ORCHARD PARK – Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen was 11 years old in April 2008 when the Baltimore Ravens used the 18th pick in the first round to select quarterback Joe Flacco from the University of Delaware.
At a time when Allen was learning everything about football by playing the video game Madden, Flacco was actually a player on his game screen as he started all 16 games of his rookie NFL season, guiding the Ravens to a record of 11-5 and one appearance. in the AFC Championship Game where they ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
When Allen was still in high school, Flacco led the Ravens to their January 2013 Super Bowl victory over the 49ers, earning game MVP honors.

Sunday afternoon, for the first time since the 28-year-old Allen entered the NFL in 2018he and Flacco will start facing each other when the Bills travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts, the team that just made Flacco their new starter at the age of 39.
“He’s a real player,” Allen said. “He throws one of the prettiest balls you’ve ever seen.” I had the chance to spend some time with him in Tahoe during the golf tournament last year, and he’s a great guy too. I’ve heard a lot of good stories, a lot of good things about him, and I’ve seen it firsthand in Tahoe. So I have a lot of respect for him and his game, a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. He’s a fantastic player but an even better person.
The only game Flacco started against Buffalo in the Allen era came on Opening Day in 2018 when he threw for 236 yards and the The Ravens embarrassed the Bills 47-3. That day, Sean McDermott pulled ridiculous starter Nathan Peterman in the third quarter and sent Allen — the No. 7 overall rookie in the 2018 draft — for his first professional action. He became a starter in Week 2 and never looked back.
Since then, Flacco has played for the Ravens, Broncos, Jets and Browns, and his teams have faced Buffalo seven times, but he hasn’t started any of them. He was either inactive, on injured reserve, or used only as a cleaner and in those games between 2019 and 2022, Allen started them all and the Bills won six of seven.
Flacco now has a real chance against Buffalo, tasked with trying to put the Colts in playoff contention as they currently sit in eighth place in the AFC with a 4-5 record.
