New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux noticed Brenden Schooler’s performance in Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears.
Schooler recorded a sack, a tackle and two quarterback hits on the day. Although he is best known for his special teams contributions, he factored into the Patriots’ defensive game plan as a spy on Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.
It was an unexpected wrinkle in the Patriots defense.
“He needs to be there more often, especially against fast quarterbacks,” Godchaux said via Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. “We have Josh Allen, we have a few coming. He needs to be on defense more often.

Schooler has been a reliable and versatile player for the Patriots since arriving in 2022.
His emergence on defense is something that could be crucial for the Patriots, as they look to generate more production through the pass rush.
