Like the Las Vegas Raiders‘so far, the 2024 NFL campaign has not gone as planned for the Miami Dolphins.
Miami (3-6) opened its season with a 20-17 victory Jacksonvillebut adversity soon followed. In the Dolphins’ eventual 31-10 Week 2 loss to the Buffalo BillsMiami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is out after suffering a concussion in a collision with Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin.
This called Tagovailoa’s season and career into question given the Alabama a former student’s history of head injuries. Tagovailoa would miss each of Miami’s next four games.
With Tagovailoa sidelined, the Dolphins lost three of four and fell to 2-4 on the season. Tagovailoa returned in Week 8 in a 28-27 loss to Arizona.
The Dolphins lost another game by one score the following week in Buffalo (30-27), but eventually bounced back with a 23-15 victory on Monday Night Football. Los Angeles Rams last week.
Despite their record, Raiders Head coach Antonio Pierce knows the challenge the Dolphins bring.
The Raiders also know the Dolphins. Then operating in an interim capacity, Miami actually handed Pierce his first loss as Las Vegas head coach in a 20-13 loss to Hard Rock Stadium last season in Week 11.
Pierce was asked if there was anything he and the Raiders could take from last season’s game in Miami.
“Yeah, I think feeling their speed because it’s real. These guys are fast, man, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4. I don’t think anyone is 4.5, I think it’s illegal for their screening department but it’s real I think so we feel that way with 10. [Tyreek Hill]with 17 [Jaylen Waddle]28 [De’Von Achane] I haven’t played this game as much, and I think 31 [Raheem Mostert].
“So just getting these guys going, understanding the tempo and speed and efficiency that Tua plays with. I think it was really good, and it’s a good film for us to go back and to watch it now while we watch the other games this year as well,” Pierce said.
In their win over the Rams on Monday night, Tagovailoa completed 20 of 28 passes for 207 yards with a touchdown pass to Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill.
Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT from Hard Rock Stadium and the game will be broadcast on CBS.
