Losing games in the final moments can not only be a punch in the gut to the fans, but also to the team’s veteran managers and captains. Chicago Bearone has the impression that they receive finishing blows from their opponents.
This has been especially true this season with the Hail Mary loss to the Washington Commanders and last week’s blocked field goal loss to the Green Bay Packers, which felt not only demoralizing but destructive to a season that was once full of optimism.
This week, defensive leader and star cornerback Jaylon Johnson said the team was hit in the face by opponents in different aspects of the game. Appearing in his weekly segment on 670 the Score, Johnson said the team had to find a way to deliver their own knockout blows to their opponents.
“We got punched in different ways from a lot of different people,” Johnson said, via 670 score. “At this point, it’s kind of (us) getting used to getting punches thrown at us. We’ve got to find a way to throw knockout punches ourselves.”
Whether it was the defense carrying a porous offense, the offense putting the team in position to win and only being disappointed by the defense or special teams, the Bears have suffered brutal losses all season . It’s one thing to be completely dominated, but most of the losses this season have come in close games, with highly questionable coaching decisions or a lack of offensive production holding them back.
With less than half of the season remaining, Johnson wants the team to start eliminating opponents, instead of taking devastating blows.
