Brodric Martin is back on the Detroit Lions active list. The Lions activated the second-year defensive tackle from injured reserve at the end of his return window.
Martin has missed the entire season thus far after suffering a knee injury in Detroit’s preseason finale. He was designated to return on October 31, meaning the Lions had to activate Martin this week or risk losing him for the rest of the year.
Martin plans to strengthen the defensive interior rotation, helping limit the high number of snaps for starters DJ Reader and Alim McNeill. The 2023 third-round pick out of Western Kentucky showed growth in his game and improved physical condition over the summer before getting injured.
No additional roster moves were needed to activate Martin after the team handled the activation of injured safety Ifetu Melifonwu and his subsequent return to IR with a different illness.
