Football of flag for girls in high school and college develops quickly, locally and nationally, and this excitement and this growth were fully exposed to Saint Vincent College on Saturday afternoon.
Thanks to the Pittsburgh steelers, six high schools and seven colleges met for a first -rate kick -off to the football season of the female flag.
The Steelers have laid the foundations and girls established in football in high schools in the Pittsburgh region in 2022. Since then, they have invested more than $ 250,000 to develop flag football programs in the schools in the region.
The old tight end of the Steelers Matt Spaeth says it is an investment that is bearing fruit.
“I love the game,” said Spaeth. “I have girls. I think it’s great. He grows the game, and I think it’s just a good thing for everyone.”
What started with six high schools just a few years ago, has become more than 50 teams that participated this season. And that’s not all. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association voted to offer football for girls As a sport punishable by the state This year, with more than 100 high school teams that should play in the Commonwealth.
Not only does this sport develop in secondary schools, but it grows in colleges and universities, thanks in part to the passion of players like Eve Majewski, who helped to found the flag football team at the University of Pittsburgh.
She says this sport gave her so much.
“It’s so important to me,” said Majewski. “It has mastered my ability to be confident since I was young. And that said to the people we play in football. The girls play football. We play Football Flag, and we dominate Football Flag.”
More than 30 states offer sanctioned or controlled football programs, and sport increases so quickly that flag football should already be part of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
