The former Baltimore defensive line player Ravens Calais Campbell signed a one -year agreement with the Cardinals of Arizona, Adam Schefter’s reports of ESPN. The agreement would pay him $ 5.5 million, but could go up to $ 7.5 million with incentives.
Campbell, 38, was generally linked to Baltimore in free agency this offseason. In fact, Barry Jackson of Miami Herald noted on Monday how Campbell “thought about whether he wanted to sign with the dolphins of Miami, Baltimore Ravens or another team”, but added that retirement was also a possibility. A day later, Campbell decides to find one of his old teams, but not the Ravens.
The selection of six times Pro Bowl played with the Ravens of 2020-2022, representing 113 plated in total, 14 plated for loss, 11 bags and nine passes defended at that time. He spent the 2023 season with the Falcons of Atlanta and the 2024 season with the Dolphins, and continued to play at a high level despite his age.
Perhaps the most impressive part of Campbell’s career is how sustainable it was. He has never played less than 12 games in a season, and 17 years old, he still played remarkably well.
The Ravens, who have a vacuum in advance after the retirement of Michael Pierce, would have had an agreement in place to acquire Campbell on the deadline, but the Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, opposed the agreement at the last minute. Alas, it seems that a meeting was not supposed to be.
If the Ravens want reinforcements along the defensive line, they will have to look elsewhere. However, head coach John Harbaugh seems confident in the group he now has.
“We have to make sure that we have a good solid defensive line”, ” Harbaugh said. “The good news is that the project is really deep there, and there are also a few options. We can bring guys back. I also like our guys that we can bring back.”
