The Houston Texans signed Danielle Hunter to an extension of a year of a year of $ 35.6 million this offseason, which stuck another season on the two -year pact which he signed with the Texans last year.
Although the general reaction to Hunter’s agreement was mainly positive since the veteran accumulated 46 plated and 12 bags en route to his fifth appearance in Pro Bowl, some wonder if Houston may have bitten more than he can chew.
Cem Yolbulan of House of Houston believes that the Texans’ decision to prolong Hunter can turn around, and he has provided reasoning strong enough to support his complaint.
“At the same time, he will be 31 years old during the season and is now the second highest rusher of the league after Myles Garrett,” Yolbulan wrote. “He also has an empty year in 2027, which will have $ 20.4 million against the team’s salary ceiling after the expiration of his contract. As good as he was in his first season as Texan, it is a big risk to take.”
Hunter has certainly shown no signs of slowdown in 2024, because he recorded an overall note of 82.7 in Pro Football Focus and was one of the best rushers of football passes for some time.
But it is quite right to have questions about a player on the wrong side of 30 who also has a history of checkered injury. Do not forget: the LSU product missed 2020 following a disc herniated in its neck, then suffered from a torn pectoral muscle the following year.
For the moment, however, it’s nice to see the Texans double a defense that was the most stingy of the league last season.
