Things are not doing well for the 2022 quarter-Arrière class, a group that includes the starter of the former Washington commanders, Sam Howell.
On the nine quarters taken, several started, including Howell, who obtained 18 in his two years with the commanders, but only Brock Purdy, who was the last written by the 49ers of San Francisco, is considered a starter today.
Last off -season, Washington exchanged Howell at Seattle Seahawks as well as two draft choices in exchange for two best selections. This off -season, According to a new ESPN reportHowell could be in motion again.
The report submitted by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN and Brady Henderson claims that the Seahawks are open to the negotiation of Howell, “and have received requests for teams interested in acquiring their rescue quarter”.
“This interest occurs in the heels of the Seahawks adding Drew Lock last week, re-signing the old backup of Geno Smith to potentially fulfill the same role behind the new starter Sam Darnold. Jaren Hall is their fourth quarter, giving Seattle a potential surplus.”
Of course, there is also the draft of the NFL 2025, where Seattle could find a motivation to write a quarter if they covet the table far enough, probably in day 3. Each year, the teams also envisage free agents not drafted, and keep Howell, which has the most commercial potential of all backups, may not make sense.
When Howell was exchanged at the Seahawks of commanders, it was reported that several teams had also been involved in these talks.
In 2022, Howell had an assessment of day 2 of most, but fell in day 3 thanks to the poor reputation of the class as a whole and in the fact that several teams which could have been interested in the quarterrier provided these positions during the offseason.
This offseason, Denver’s broncos have negotiated against Russell Wilson, the Indianapolis colts negotiated against Matt Ryan, the Cleveland Browns exchanged for Deshaun Watson, and the commanders themselves exchanged for Carson Wentz.
A handful of other teams have also acquired veterans backups that probably removed Howell from their boards even though he was slipping while another team, the Falcons of Atlanta, now signed the replacement for Washington Marcus Mariota and finally drafted Desmond Ridder in front of Howell.
Among these teams, it is possible that the broncos are interested in Howell to come and to compete as a backup of BO Nix, even if the staff who were originally interested in him is no longer with the team. The colts hope that Anthony Richardson takes place, but Daniel Jones as a veteran challenger and since the team will probably not keep both, the preparation of a backup for anyone who would not be a bad idea either. The Browns have already thrown as many quarter assumptions as possible in this position and should write a relatively high weekend, while Falcons advance with Michael Penix Jr. while they are looking for a business partner for Kirk Cousins, and could probably use a backup with an experience of initially.
There are therefore a lot of possible places that Howell could land, and wherever he finds himself, fans of the commanders who thought once he could be the answer to their quarter prayers will probably wish him the best. Unless he faces Washington, of course.
