Williams has established career summits with 58 catches, 1,001 yards and seven affected last season, when he appeared as a reliable supplement to the deep threat to Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The 24 -year -old receiver finished second in the league at 17.3 yards per capture, produced six games of 50 or more yards and six others of 25 or more yards.
But as explosive as it, the long -term future of Williams with the Lions is uncertain in part due to the growing cost of passenger sensors.

The Lions openly spoke of wanting to extend many of their young basic players, including the classmates of Williams in 2022, Aidan Hutchinson and Kerby Joseph (who signed a four -year extension as the highest paid security of the NFL this week). They have never expressly included Williams in this group, and Holmes recognized during the League meetings in March that giving Williams a new agreement would be delicate due to the money he will probably order and the number of other extensions that the Lions have on the horizon.
The lions signed in 2021 select St. Brown, Penei Sewell and Alim McNeill in extensions last year, and 2023 chooses Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Sam Laporta and Brian Branch will be eligible in extension in 2026.
Williams is expected to win $ 2.636 million this fall and has a team option for $ 15.49 million in 2026, but could order more than $ 30 million per year on his next transaction.
“We always take it as it seems,” said Holmes in March when he asked him questions about the prospects of signing Williams to an extension. “Listen, its fifth year option, it seems that we are going to go ahead and pick it up. But in terms of extension, again, there is a lot of extensions which, hopefully, come, but it’s just that you do not know what will happen from a financial point of view because a wide receiver, it’s expensive.”

In Two distinct reportsSports Illustrated suggested that the Lions could seek to exchange Williams rather than take the fifth year option on his contract and noted that “Some in the NFL circles (believe that Williams) could be exchanged.”
