Higgins began his university career at Eastern Kentucky (29/394/3 and 58/757/10) before transferring to the state of Iowa. His game progressed at the next level, leading to two competitive seasons (53/983/6 and 87/183/9). During its junior year, cyclones used it as a threat of large game, with an average of 18.5 yards per catch, before moving it to a high volume receiver role the following season.
More than 26 division 1 games, Higgins won more than 100 yards in eight confrontations (6/172, 7/104, 9/214/1, 8/116/1, 6/102, 10/140/1, 9/155/1 and 7/115). He had a higher consistency factor in 2024, with five or more catches in 11 of the 13 games.
At the next level, Higgins will work the short areas of the middle of the field while succeeding with throws on the back shoulder outside. Its size (6’4 ”and 215 lb) will create a few discrepancies, and it executes the roads despite the gaps when they are asked to change direction and return to the quarterrier. Higgins is a hand receiver who likes to tear off the ball from a highlight.
At the NFL combines, Higgins made a dashboard of 4.47 40 yards, an important asset for a wide receiver of its size and its construction. I see his profile closer to Michael Pittman than Mike Evans. Higgins should be a second choice of this year’s draft.
Higgins enters a Houston Texans franchise that lost Stefon Diggs at the Libre agency and will be missed Tank Dell in 2025. After Nico Collins, Higgins should be the next in hierarchical order. With CJ Stroud under the center, Higgins can be a PPR machine. It is fast, with large hands and can change the directions very quickly. This is exactly what the doctor ordered for Houston, although they can always use an influx of talent on the offensive line.
The wide receivers of the Texans captured 214 assists for 2,616 yards and 16 affected on 325 targets. They represented 70.4% of the Houston reception yards.
With Joe Mixon still competing in the rear field, Houston is ready for a ton of success in 2025 and beyond. The offensive is not lacking in weapons and the addition of Higgins should create space for all game leaders. Higgins should be considered a WR3 / WR4 before the fantastic football season 2025.
