The Eagles of Philadelphia added another hero of the hometown to their list on Saturday, selecting the quarter-Arrière of Syracuse Kyle McCord with the 181st choice in the sixth round of the NFL 2025 draft. The selection represents a return to the house for the 22-year-old native of MT. Laurel, whose football trip has now completed the loop.
The McCord path to the NFL began in St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, where it has established itself as one of the most prolific high school in the region. During his mandate in preparation, McCord led the Hawks to three consecutive state championships, forming a dynamic duo with the current secondary of the Eagles Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who was selected earlier in this year’s draft.

“When I received this phone call ‘215’, I thought it was just another stuffing call. But dropping the phone and having [general manager] Howie [Roseman] On the other hand was pretty cool, “said McCord to journalists after being drafted.
After his career decorated in high school, McCord took his talents to Ohio State, where he spent three seasons with the Buckeyes. After playing behind CJ Stroud for two years, McCord won the starting role in 2023, launching 3,170 yards, 24 affected and only six interceptions.
Rather than participating in a quarter-back competition in Ohio State, McCord was transferred to Syracuse for its last college season. The move paid dividends while putting orange to a campaign and a victory of 10 victories in the Bowl of Holiday over Washington’s state. The season in 2024 of McCord was simply spectacular, because it set an ACC record with 4,779 yards by the pass while launching 34 affected.
“I knew that if I was in Ohio State or Syracuse, I was going to take a big jump from the first to year 2 (as a starter),” said McCord during the NFL combination. “I was very confident to that.”

Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 218 pounds, McCord has the physical tools that the NFL teams covet. The Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was particularly impressed by the mental treatment of the quarter. “What really stands out is what speed it moves through the progressions and how quickly his mind works. Really excited to work with him,” said Sirianni.
McCord joins a quarter hall which includes the quarter-rear of Franchise Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Although McCord understands his role of development perspective, he is impatient to learn injuries and staff of Eagles coaches. “Obviously, Jalen is the guy, and I think he’s going to be a great mentor and someone I will just try to imitate,” said McCord. “He was very successful in the League and it was not by accident.”
For McCord, being written by the Eagles represents the culmination of a childhood dream. Having grown up in the south of Jersey, he was a fan of the team for which he plays now, which makes the selection of Saturday all the more significant. “It was a bit of a wild ride,” said McCord. “Being here at the moment, it’s a bit surreal. It was a dream growing, and therefore just trying to dip everything.”
