So when you get an invitation to minicamp recruit to compete for a place on their defense, you know that you are doing something good.

According to his coach, the Steelers extended the invitation to Pitt Edge Rusher Nate Matlack, who impressed in his one and only season with the Panthers.
He finished 2024 with five bags, eight plated for loss, and showed his versatility by diverting three passes. Although his figures do not jump as much from the page as some of the other rushers of the college that were taken in the draft of the NFL 2025, his statistics at Pitt’s Pro Day are not a joke.
It ran 4.75 in the 40 yards dashboard and a 1.65 in the split of 10 yards, which are very impressive with its frame of 6-5 250 pounds. He was also able to display a 36.5 inch vertical, as well as a large jump of just over 10 feet.
The Steelers obviously already have very impressive guys who came out of the edge in TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith. So, it is logical that the team takes its chance on a guy who could have a very high ceiling due to its combination of size and athletics.

If Matlack can show that he can use this athletics to his advantage in the pros, he could have a decent blow to lock a pre-season place.
