What each team wants in the NFL draft is the flexibility to leave the board of directors. However, to various degrees, there will almost always be limits with this because there are only so many holes that can be filled in free agency.
The effect to fall back from having an urgent need but in a position group which is not very deep is that it can force a team to prioritize the drafting of this position early, which can limit the aforementioned flexibility they have and, hope, will not lead to reach. Conversely, even if a need is quite important, if it is in a deep position group, the team can have luxury to tackle this need, knowing that there is talent later in the project.
As we know, there are many variables at stake with regard to the processing of the project, but the needs of the team and the position of position are two of the largest which can gain a lot of weight. Let us see how the lessons of this year are compared where the Foal Need the most help.

This, of course, is a better need for the colts. Not only do they need depth, but as GM Chris Ballard said after the season, a higher presence of passes is also necessary at the tight end. It was a unit last season when the four players on the list of 53 men combined for only 467 reception yards.
Naturally, a large part of the attention will be on the fact of strengthening the game of passes through this position, but the capacity of the tight end to be a reliable blocker is also a must within the Shane Steichen offensive.

The five colts from five at the front could very well be on the list. However, with Ryan Kelly and Will Fries now elsewhere, the depth along the interior must be reinforced with Tanor Bortolini and Matt Goncalves who are probably in starting roles. It would not be a bad idea for Goncalves, which was a tackle in college and during his first NFL season, to have a right guard.

In addition to that, if Goncalves potentially starts at the right guard, this means that the colts must find a new swing tackle on the bench – or at least create competition for this role. Currently, the main option for this role would be Blake Freeland.

This year’s draft class force lies in the defensive trenches.
At the defensive, the colts could try to add to their depth with Dayo Odeyingbo now in Chicago. It is also a lot of production that must now be replaced after Odeyingbo led the team in pressures last season.

We must also keep in mind that the project is to plan in advance and that we examine 2026, Samson Ebukam, Kwity Paye and Tyquan Lewis are all free agents.
Then, at the defensive plate point, the game behind Deforest Buckner and Grover Stewart must improve. It was not good enough last year with Raekwon Davis and Taven Bryan, and it should not be assumed that Neville Gallimore and Addetomiwa Adebawore will provide the necessary boost. It may be hope, but with Ballard wanting to create competition throughout the list, he should not set up there either.

Cameron said that the growing consensus is that the second is the lowest position group this year. The colts, however, need depth to position, with EJ Speed and Grant Stuard signing elsewhere, as well as to find a new starter alongside Zaire Franklin.
Ideally, whatever the new starter, brings an additional coverage presence to the position. This is something that Jaylon Carlies, former college security, could provide, but a bit like during the defensive tackle, Ballard should not assume that it is and he should seek to involve.
