Green Bay packers are desperately needing a rusher on board. Although the team’s defense posted solid bag numbers in 2024, Green Bay does not have many productive players in the group of positions outside Rashan Gary.
Managing Director Brian Gutekunst will likely seek to meet the need for the April project, but Kristopher Knox to Bleacher Report Predicted that packers will also add a rusher on board thanks to a free agency by signing the former Pittsburgh Steelers defender, Preston Smith.
“While the packers recorded 45 team bags last season, Rashan Gary was the only defender of Green Bay to record more than five. Smith recorded 4.5 bags with the packers and the Steelers last season and reached eight bags in each of the three previous seasons,” Knox wrote.
Smith was less than 2024 because the veteran posted only 4.5 bags and 18 quarter-back pressures in 17 games. The 32 -year -old man was exchanged at the Steelers Packers during the commercial deadline last year, but had trouble finding a role in the defense of Pittsburgh.
Although Smith has aged and had a year of decline in 2024, Green Bay should continue a meeting with him. Smith posted three consecutive seasons with more than eight bags with packers from 2021 to 2023 and also had a 12 -helm campaign in 2019. The veteran could still have a solid game in him and will be incredibly cheap to sign
Smith will not solve all the problems of Green Bay to Edge Rusher, but the former out of competition of the Mississippi State would be a quality depth piece for defense and could serve as a starter if necessary.
