The runners in the NFL draft are always a curious case. In some projects, we see two or three being written in the first round, and in others, we see no selected being.
Last year, the Carolina Panthers were the first team to select a ball carrier, but that only happened halfway through the second round. During the draft of the 2010 NFL, a total of three runners disappeared before the end of the first round. Sometimes it’s a back -to -back party, and sometimes it’s a famine. This year could be a year of celebration.

The best names to watch are Ashton Jeanty de Boisse State and Omearin Hampton de Caroline du Nord. Some projections both left the table in the first 15 selections. Beyond the RB1 and RB2 perceived, a pair of Ohio State runners awaits in the wings. Quinshon Judkins and Treveyon Henderson are the caliber of the backs that could make their mark in the NFL. If it goes crazy during the opening evening in the draft of the NFL 2025, perhaps a team will return in the first round to secure one. It seems a little eccentric, but we have seen crazier things taking place in the project.
The Touché thread has returned each time since 2010 in which several backs were selected during the opening evening.

The only fans will probably remember that the most is Spiller. After five years with the Bills, he never stayed in one place more than a 2015 season until his career received in 2017. Matthews has dug a seven -year career between San Diego (now Los Angeles Chargers) and Philadelphia, including two seasons of 1,000 yards with six affected. Best’s career has achieved a stop before starting due to the number of concussion he suffered during two seasons in the NFL.

N ° 3 Globally: Trent Richardson, Cleveland Browns
Everyone remembers Trent Richardson, mainly to be a bust. He was great at university under the legendary Nick Saban, but most of these damage came during his junior season. Richardson rushed to 1,679 yards with 21 affected during his junior year. Richardson had left the NFL by 2016. Doug Martin, the “muscular hamster”, dug a career of seven years mainly with Tampa Bay before leaving the league in 2018. He rushed to 5,356 yards with 30 affected during this period. Wilson, a bit like the best, was out of the NFL after only two seasons due to injuries.

N ° 10 Globally: Todd Gurley, St. Louis Rams
-

Regarding two backs during writing in the past 15 years, the duo of Gurley and Gordon has been good. They combined for 12,625 yards and 123 affected on the ground in 200 games played. Gurley only lasted six seasons, most of the production coming in the first four years with the Rams. He ended his career with the Falcons in 2020. Gordon played nine seasons with three different teams, his last with Baltimore in 2023.
NFL Draft 2017
November 5, 2017; Charlotte, NC, United States; The Carolina Panthers, the ball carrier Christian McCaffrey (22), directed the ball during the second quarter against the Falcons of Atlanta at the Bank of America Stadium. Compulsory credit: Jeremy Brevard-USA Sports today
-
N ° 4 Globally: Leonard Fournette, Jacksonville Jaguars
The 2017 class was the second time that we have seen two backs written in the first 10 choices, and not something that has happened since. Fournette was a battle horse who, according to many, would continue at the next level, but we only saw glimps during his seven seasons in the NFL. He did not play after being released by his third team, Buffalo, in January 2024.

Christian McCaffrey, on the other hand, hopes to bounce back in 2025 after playing only four games in a limited campaign of injuries. He dealt with an Achilles problem, then closed his return due to a PCL injury. McCaffrey came out of the best season of his career in 2023. During his eight seasons at the NFL level, McCaffrey counted more than 10,000 melee yards with 81 affected in total as a double threat option in the rear field.
NFL Draft 2018

-
No. 27 In total: Rashaad Penny, Seattle Seahawks
-
N ° 31 Overall: Sony Michel, New England Patriots
Among the back selected in the draft of the 2018 NFL, Saquon Barkley was the only one to play last season. Barkley finally won the title on the ground, was appointed offensive player of the year of the NFL and won a super bowl in his first season with Philadelphia after six seasons with the Giants. Barkley was a workhorse for the Eagles, rushing on more than 2,000 yards and making a show while he was doing it.
Sony Michel has accomplished a lot in his brief five -year career, including two Super Bowl rings. His statistics will not impress you, but he listened to his body when leaving. Rashaad Penny did not play last season after having participated in only three games with the Eagles in 2023. Penny never played a full season during his six -year career and was placed on the reserve / retired list on July 30, 2024 by the Panthers.

Harris and Etienne were later recovered in the first round of the NFL 2021 draft. The two played four years in their respective colleges and were very productive. Most of the production of Najee Harris has occurred in the past two seasons, where it has accumulated more than 2,600 yards on the ground with 39 affected. He added 11 additional touchs as a receiver off the back field. After four productive seasons with the Aceurswhere he started each match and rushed to more than 1,000 yards in each campaign, his fifth year option was not recovered, and he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Etienne did not have the same production during his four seasons as a pro, he missed his full season recruited due to a Lisfranc injury he suffered in a pre-season match. After consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards in 2023 and 2023, Etienne would share races with the Recruit Bigsby balloon carrier. The Jaguars, however, picked up its fifth year option.
2023 NFL draft
Sept. 17, 2023; Atlanta, Georgia, United States; The Falcons of Atlanta, the Ballon Ballon Bijan Robinson (7), run the ball against Green Bay packers at the first quarter at the Mercedes-Benz stadium. Compulsory credit: Brett Davis-USA Sports today
-
N ° 8 Overall: Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
Advertisement
The two best runners in the 2023 draft class have presented a program for fans in the past two seasons. After being selected n ° 8 in total by the Falcons of Atlanta, Robinson collected 2,432 yards and 18 affected on the ground. It also accumulated 918 reception yards with 5 additional scores in the air as a receiver. It seems that we have only scraped the surface of how the bijan can be good.
Jahmyr Gibbs is a experienced runner, but his best attribute could be his capacity in the field open as a receiver and runner. In just two short seasons, Gibbs accumulated 3,190 melee yards with 31 affected in total. Most of which came from football management.
It remains to be seen if Ashton Jeanty and Oarin Hampton can present a program like Robinson and Gibbs in the past two seasons. But I wouldn’t bet against them.
