The Buffalo Bills opened their first week with their voluntary off -season training sessions with a missing notable piece: start the Ballon bearer James Cook.
Buffalo’s managing director Brandon Beane noted that Cook was absent from the team’s training, although Beane stressed that, as far as this week is concerned, “it is voluntary”. Beane warned to assume that Cook was absent due to contractual talks.
By entering the last year of his recruit contract, Cook saw three teammates from his 2022 draft class gaining the four -year contract extension of this offseason: the large receiver Khalil Shakir, the second Terl Bernard and the corner half Christian Benford.
“Try not to look at it too much,” said Beane. “We could all assume that he is not here because he is not satisfied with his contract or anything, but it is not fair. He did not tell me that. No one told me that he said that, but I think it’s a little unfair to say that it is not here because of it.”
The 25 -year -old cook posted his second consecutive season of 1,000 yards a year ago while linking the franchise record with 16 precipitated affected. In three seasons, Cook rushed for 2,638 yards and 20 affected.
Cook publicly declared his desire to lock a new contract. In February, he went to Instagram Live and pinned the comment “15 Mill Year” at the top of the flow, undoubtedly referring to his requested price of $ 15 million per year. It would make him the third highest runner behind Saquon Barkley in Philadelphia ($ 20.6 million) and Christian McCaffrey from San Francisco ($ 19 million).
