Owings Mills, Md. – The director general of the Ravens of Baltimore, Eric Decosta, defended the decision to select Marshall Edge Rusher Mike Green in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday, saying that they took it with the choice n ° 59 after having investigated two allegations of sexual assault in its past.
At the combination of the NFL in February, Green declared that he had been accused of sexual assault to Virginia, which led to his transfer to Marshall and faced another allegation of sexual assault in high school. Green was never charged and insisted that he hadn’t done anything wrong.
On Friday, Decosta said that the team had examined these allegations “very completely”. The Ravens scouts spoke to the people of Virginia and Marshall. DECOSTA also met Green for 90 minutes during a pre-tracing visit to Baltimore.
“We understand the severity of these allegations, of course,” said Decosta. “But making our due diligence, we are comfortable with Mike. I think the best is to come with him and I’m glad we had him.”
Green, the leader of FBS Sacks with 17 last season, fell to the bottom of the second round after being assessed as an 18th best hope of Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN, there was less than 1% chance that Green was available in n ° 59, according to the predictor of the day of the ESPN draft.
When Green was selected, he melted in tears during a television program of his party project. Green was not made available to journalists on Friday.
“We have obtained as much information as possible,” said Decosta. “We considered the facts, we considered the allegations. We thought about what the reports were really and what they really passed it and we made the decision on the basis of this.”
Green’s editorial staff occurs at a time when the NFL investigates the Ravens Justin Tucker’s Botter for sexual misconduct. Tucker was accused of inappropriate behavior by 16 massage therapists, according to the Baltimore banner. Tucker has publicly challenged allegations.
When asked if Tucker’s situation was taken into account of the decision to write Green, Decosta said: “We look at them individually and we do as much homework as possible. And specifically in the case of Mike and Mike, I have the impression that we did a good job to talk to as many people as possible. We talked to Mike, we did it to take it.”
