The Las Vegas Raiders suffered an embarrassing 36-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers in week 3 the team was largely outplayed by coach and play early on.
All the momentum Las Vegas built from a miraculous road win over the Baltimore Ravens In week two, she was completely destroyed due to a discouraging performance in Sunday’s home opener.
One of the main reasons the Raiders lost in Week 3 was the disappearance of the pass rush. The unit had just nine pressures against the Panthers, and Malcolm Koonce was notably absent.
With Koonce absent for the season and the Raiders lack edge rusher talent outside of Maxx Crosby, Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report wants Las Vegas to acquire New York Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari.
The Raiders are in near crisis mode with their offensive defense group. Malcolm Koonce was placed on injured reserve a few weeks ago. Tyree Wilson is injured and the Raiders have almost no help on the edges for Maxx Crosby.
It might be time for the Raiders to start making some calls. Calling up Joe Schoen could be a good first move. Azeez Ojulari has been on our trade board for a while, and he could have more success in Patrick Graham’s defense. He had eight sacks as a rookie when Graham was the Giants’ defensive coordinator.
Although Ojulari has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, the 24-year-old had the best year of his career under current Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and had a fantastic game in Week 3 for the Giants.
The former Georgia standout recorded eight sacks and 42 quarterback pressures during his rookie campaign in 2021 under Graham and has shown flashes when healthy the past two years.
Ojulari made a huge impact in New York’s Week 3 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday, recording two sacks and four quarterback pressures and looking like his old self.
With Tyree Wilson not doing much on the field and the Raiders’ unstable depth on the edge, Ojulari could be a great low-risk acquisition for the defense.
