Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has never missed a game due to injury. The only game he missed was his 2021 rookie season when he missed the final game of the regular season with COVID.
Parsons is dealing with a sprained ankle, and while the Cowboys have yet to rule him out for Sunday’s game against the Steelers, the All-Pro acknowledged he might not play.
“Never” Parsons said, via Patrik Walker on the team’s website. “Never in my entire life. I have never missed a match. I’ve played injured and through pain, so for me, playing through pain isn’t really the problem. »
Parsons is considered week-to-week, but he wore a boot and rode a scooter on Monday.
“It’s really frustrating, for real,” Parsons said. “You put a lot of energy into preparing and being there for the team, so being away, it hurts me because I’m letting people down. I’m letting people down. I thought I was invincible for a while.
“It’s humbling. It’s part of the test I was talking about. It’s faith. You have to come back strong.”
Parsons said he wanted to return as quickly as possible, but he also didn’t want it to linger. Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby attempted to play through a sprained ankle and ended up missing Sunday’s game against the Browns after playing 61 snaps in Week 3.
The Cowboys face the Steelers and Lions before their bye week.
“I was trying to back off,” Parsons said. “I walked into the office and [head athletic trainer] Jimmy [Maurer] It was like, ‘Yeah, you probably won’t be able to go [against the Steelers]. . . . This probably makes sense to some [to sit out until after the off week]but when you’re a real competitor, like I said, you only get 17 chances, and missing one of those opportunities to perform at the highest level bothers me. I feel like I want to play on Sunday.
“I want to play. If I can play, I will play. For me, as long as I can run and move the way I want, I want to play.”
