Some former Clemson – and local – stars are reuniting in Charlotte.
Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they promoted defensive end DeShawn Williams to their practice squad’s active roster, while the Panthers also signed outside linebacker Shaq Lawson to their practice squad.
Of course, the two former Tigers were teammates at neighboring Daniel High School before playing together at Clemson in 2013 and 2014.
Williams played in two games for the Panthers earlier this season and also spent 2023 in Carolina after signing with the Panthers before last season. He had 33 total tackles, seven quarterback hits and one sack in 2023 while playing in 16 games with 10 starts.
Originally an undrafted free agent in 2015, Williams spent time with the CFL’s Bengals, Dolphins, Colts, Bills and Calgary Stampeders, in addition to three stints with the Broncos and his time with the Panthers. The 31-year-old has collected 150 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and nine sacks during his NFL career.
Lawson joined the Bills for the past two seasons after beginning his career with the team. Between his two stints in Buffalo, the 30-year-old spent time with the Dolphins, Texans and Jets.
Last season, Lawson had 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and seven QB hits in 16 games (one start).
A first-round draft pick of the Bills in 2016, he accumulated 207 tackles, 42 tackles for loss and 26 sacks during his NFL career.
