NEW ORLEANS — Thousands of Florida residents are heeding authorities’ warning ahead of Hurricane Milton’s arrival, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Tampa Bay area is expected to be directly impacted by Hurricane Milton. The NFL team announced it would temporarily move its operations to New Orleans ahead of Sunday’s game against the Saints.
The players and their families, including four-legged ones, flew to New Orleans Tuesday morning, just before Tampa International Airport closed.
Players shared photos on Instagram from the tarmac at MSY and Bourbon Street once they arrived.
The New Orleans Saints are no strangers to evacuation. Three years ago, during Hurricane Ida, Black and Gold temporarily moved its operations to Dallas.
New Orleans also understands the power that football can bring us in times of storm.
Last month, the Saints dominated the Cowboys after Hurricane Francine.
“New Orleans is strong and you see that resilience in them to get through what we went through with the hurricane, but also to travel and go to the game,” Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor said. “They were definitely second in line, and I was watching those videos. It was pretty good.
When the dome reopened after the catastrophic devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the city felt a new glimmer of hope.
So we welcome the Bucs to the Big Easy with open arms. At least until the game clock starts on Sunday.
The Buc’s first practice at Tulane is scheduled for Wednesday.
