The Jacksonville Jaguars had several standout performances in their first win of the year, but two stood out above the rest.
Following the Jaguars’ 37-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Stadium in Week 5, the Jaguars have two players who were named this week. PFF Team of the Week: left guard Ezra Cleveland and defensive end Travon Walker.
That means Cleveland was PFF’s highest-rated left guard in the NFL and Walker was among the top two edge rushers alongside Nick Herbig.
Cleveland helped lead a Jaguars offensive line that paved the way for Tank Bigsby’s first career 100-yard game, while the unit also shut out the Colts defensive line and allowed no quarterback hits -back throughout the competition.
“It’s rare. I mean, it’s rare. This usually doesn’t happen. You’re going to get hit multiple times, QB hustling, things of that nature,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Monday.
“But again, I think it’s just a credit to the O-line and just paying attention to the details and focusing on your job and the things that we talked about with the team. They have did a great job of keeping it clean yesterday, and Trevor did a great job distributing the ball and then we were able to move the ball around with some success. So I think all of that helps keep your quarterback clean. .
As for Walker, he had the best game of his career after a career-high three sacks against the Colts and Joe Flacco. Walker also caused a Flacco fumble late in the first half, which gave the Jaguars valuable points in a one-score game.
“Yeah, I think you really see his power and his length and his speed and his athleticism and who he is as a player. I think this plan benefits him,” Pederson said after Sunday’s win.
“He’s been embraced and really bought into Ryan’s philosophy and plan and style of attack. He continues to get better every week, and just like where he’s at, I mean, he’s had a very good game yesterday. He probably could have had a fourth sack in there, maybe a fifth sack in there. But that’s just him and that’s what I see throughout the week, how he. prepares during the week and it carries over into the match and that’s what happened yesterday.
