NBC presented a historic rivalry game during Week 5 of its “Sunday Night Football” schedule. Week 6 won’t have the same story, fans will have the chance to see at least one desperate team in action.
THE Cincinnati Bengals are fighting to avoid a 1-5 start that would make it extremely difficult for them to challenge for a playoff spot. They are coming off a disappointing 41-38 loss to the Baltimore Ravensa game in which Cincinnati led by 10 points in the fourth quarter twice before losing in overtime.
Seeking to block the Bengals’ return to the AFC race is the New York Giants. New York was destroyed in the first week by the Minnesota Vikings but he went 2-2 over the next four weeks. Their defeats were each by a single score while their victories over the Cleveland Browns And Seattle Seahawks were considered upsets.
A Giants victory would send shockwaves throughout the NFL and could push the Bengals into seller’s territory ahead of the NFL trade deadline. As such, this “SNF” battle could have a ripple effect throughout the NFL.

Who is playing Sunday Night Football tonight?
-
Match: Cincinnati Bengals with the New York Giants
-
Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
The Bengals (1-4) travel to New Jersey to face the Giants (2-3) in a game that approaches must-win territory for Cincinnati.
The Bengals got off to another slow start under Zac Taylor, but this one persisted beyond the first few weeks of the season. Cincinnati’s offense has been terrific, with Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase And Higgins T-shirt shined in Week 4 against the Ravens, but the Bengals defense was one of the worst stopping units in the NFL.
Lou Anarumo’s defense has generally been solid during his tenure, but Cincinnati entered Week 6 allowing the NFL’s second-most points per game (29) and seventh-most yards per game (365). ,4). Part of the problem is the cumulative effect of some key defensive losses over the past few seasons (DJ player, Jesse Bates, Chidobe Awuzie). Even so, the Bengals will have to struggle against a Giants offense that is coming off a strong performance against the Seahawks.
NANCY’S ARMOR: Aaron Rodgers Made It Hard to Believe Everything He Says
The Giants surprised many with their victory in Seattle. Many anticipated Daniel Jones would struggle to move the ball without its best receiver, Malik Nabersavailable. Instead, Wan’Dale Robinson And Darius Slayton produced quality outputs while Tyrone Tracy Jr. accumulated 129 rushing yards in place of a Devin Singletary.
If Jones and Co. can continue to move the ball consistently, New York may be able to keep this competition close. The Giants sport a dominant pass rush led by Brian Brule And Kayvon Thibodeaux outside and Dexter Laurent inside. Lawrence already has six sacks this season and claims to be the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL in the post-Aaron Donald era.
As such, it won’t be easy for Burrow and the Bengals to improve to 2-4 this season and try to keep pace in the early days of the AFC wild-card race. And if the Giants can pull off a second straight upset, Brian Daboll will suddenly have his team at .500 and dreaming of a potential playoff berth.
Still, it’s worth noting that all of the Bengals’ losses in 2024 have been by six points or less. At some point, one might expect the situation to reverse and Cincinnati to finish games in a way that has eluded them thus far in 2024.
