THE Washington Commanders (4-2) return home to Northwest Stadium for their Week 7 meeting with the Carolina Panthers (1-5). The Commanders will play at home for three of the next four weeks.
Washington is coming off its first loss, a 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Commanders faced the best offense in the NFL, but now must focus on Week 7 and the Panthers.
Don’t let Carolina’s track record fool you. The Panthers are not easy. Carolina’s loss to Atlanta was close until the Falcons scored 10 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Here are five things to know about the Week 7 matchup between the Commanders and Panthers.
Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton helps Panthers play better
Since Andy Dalton replaced Bryce Young at quarterback, the Panthers have looked like a more functional offense. The 14-year veteran completes 66% of his passes and has seven touchdowns.
Panther RB Chuba Hubbard is third in NFL in rushing
Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard is third in the NFL with 485 rushing yards. Hubbard averages 5.6 yards per carry and is fourth in the NFL in rushing yards before contact. What does that tell you? This tells you that Carolina’s offensive line is playing well.
Commanders lead the series
The Commanders lead the all-time series, 10-7, dating back to Carolina’s inaugural NFL season in 1995. Washington has won three of the previous four meetings and the two franchises last played in 2021.
The commanders’ offensive is almost unstoppable
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been sacked 15 times this season, an average of 2.5 per game. Some of those sacks were a result of Daniels scrambling rather than poor pass protection. However, that didn’t stop the Commanders from scoring, which is as impressive an offensive stat as it gets.
Jayden Daniels in elite company as a passer
Daniels achieves this in the passing game. Despite last week’s loss, Daniels made some of his most impressive throws of the season against the Ravens. Next Gen Stats ranks Daniels closely behind Josh Allen as the pass scoring leader through Week 6.
