The current mentality of the sky is falling on our heads Cowboys The nation tends to color every observation, but some of these pessimistic perceptions are simply wrong. We’ll begin today’s recap by taking a closer look at a popular narrative that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb took a major step back from the career year he had last season…and we instead, let’s reveal what the numbers say. We’ll also hear what the Detroit Lions defensive backs had to say about No. 88; turns out their entire game plan depended on him.
Meanwhile, Dak Prescott earns a huge lifetime win during the bye week, we predict when an NFL kicker will finally connect from 70 yards, and we focus on what the Cowboys need to fix coming out of the bye . We’ll look at two future opponents who each might not make a major difference offensively, and we’ll get Jason Witten’s perspective on being both a father and coach to his two sons. All that plus we’re starting the 2025 draft watch list with first-round prospects and making fun of a quarterback of the future with a very familiar last name.
After 6 games, CeeDee’s stats look like 2023 :: The Mothership
Ignore the popular perception that Lamb is well behind his career-best numbers from last year. His six-game total so far in 2024 – 32 receptions for 467 yards and two scores – is almost identical to his six-game stat line from last year – 34 catches, 475 yards, one touchdown. This is even more impressive given the way defenses are guarding him now. “I think teams are doing a little better job of finding him and trying to double him,” wide receivers coach Robert Prince said. “But we have some things that can still beat double coverage, so we feel pretty good.”

Players returning from injury should make a big difference for the Cowboys, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. The offense needs better play and more creativity, especially the same type of increase in touches for CeeDee Lamb that powered his second half of last season. And the team just needs to stop shooting itself in the foot with turnovers and penalties.
Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott posts engagement photo :: Dallas Morning News
It appears a ring is in Prescott’s future, Super Bowl or not. The quarterback posted a photo of himself, girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos and baby daughter MJ on his Instagram Story on Friday, announcing the couple’s engagement.
Cowboys fans all say the same thing about returning injured Christian McCaffrey :: Athlon Sports
McCaffrey has yet to make his 2024 debut thanks to an Achilles injury that even sent him to Germany for treatment. The 49ers have yet to open his 21-day practice window, putting his status for the Week 8 clash against the Cowboys in serious doubt. San Francisco’s bye comes right after the Dallas game; it might make more sense for the club to hold on to McCaffrey until then, a strategy most Cowboys fans would wholeheartedly approve of.
When will we see a 70-yard field goal? NFL kickers have gotten so good it might be this year :: The Athletic
The field goal percentage from 60 yards or more is a staggering 38% over the past five years; over the previous 58 years, this figure was only 14.4%. Today’s kickers may be better from distance than their predecessors, but there are other factors to consider as well: training, technology, equipment and even the footballs themselves. Many believe Brandon Aubrey will be the first to kick at age 70, and his success has NFL scouts rushing to football fields in search of the next kicking phenom.

This hypothetical project assumes that the club is in the process of rebuilding. So it’s a good deal for them to take their possible quarterback of the future with the 16th overall pick, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. He can sit for a year or two and develop under Prescott’s tutelage or be attractive trade bait if Dak leads the team to a title. Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II is the second-round pick, and Iowa State wide receiver Jayden Higgins joins at third.

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty will be a hot commodity in April, but the Cowboys could also have other intriguing options with their first-round pick. Arizona receiver Tetairoa McMillan might be the top prospect at the position; Luther Burden III of Missouri also has many advantages. Defensively, watch out for defensive tackles Deone Walker (Kentucky) and Walter Nolen (Mississippi) or edge rusher Nic Scourton of Texas A&M, while Malaki Starks of Georgia and Jahdae Barron of Texas could also emerge.
Kerby Joseph reveals Lions’ 1-step method to shut down Cowboys’ offense :: St. Brown Podcast
“The game plan was really to take [CeeDee Lamb] “, the cornerback confirmed to teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown on the Receiver Podcast. “We know he’s a playmaker. Once we took him out of the game, we weren’t worried no one else anymore. Joseph had his fourth interception late in the game and had an earlier pick overturned by penalty. Joseph said he could have had a pick six with that one.
Chris Christie rips ‘classless’ Dan Campbell for Lions’ sleight of hand in blowout win over Cowboys :: CBS Sports
The former New Jersey governor and famous Cowboys fans criticized Campbell and his Lions team for the gains they continued to make, even once they had last week’s game well in hand. “Dan Campbell is angry because the refs made a bad call in the game a year ago. Well, continue this game. [NFL commissioner] Roger Goodell,” Christie said. “The Cowboys had nothing to do with the bad call on the play…Now, because of that, you want to take your [anger] You take care of that while you beat these guys and take care of it? I don’t think that’s what the pros do.”

The Cowboys don’t face Philadelphia until Nov. 10, but a key piece of the Eagles’ roster has already been ruled out. Mailata was placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least four games with a hamstring injury. His replacement at left tackle, Fred Johnson, is a six-year veteran who has had mixed success in spot duty.
