PHILADELPHIA − Eagles Receiver AJ Brown has a good idea of what Saquon Barkley is going through as Barkley faces his former team, the New York Giantsfor the first time.
Brown experienced this in 2022, facing his former team, the Tennessee Titans, after the Titans traded him to the Eagles. All week, Brown had downplayed any additional motivation, much like Barkley did this week before Sunday’s game against the Giants, with whom Barkley spent his first six seasons.
After that match, Brown said the match meant more to him. Brown had 8 catches for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Eagles’ 35-10 victory.
“I think he handled it the best way possible,” Brown said of Barkley. “You know, sure, I think the beast will probably be released on Sunday. He’s doing a great job of keeping it one day at a time. He’s doing what he does on a regular basis. He’s just coming to work to do these things. “
Brown was then asked if it was hard not to get too excited during the week.
“It’s not difficult,” Brown said. “You can just control your emotions throughout the week because you’re not playing against anyone during the week. You’re not trying to let them get bigger than what they are, because at the end of the day, it’s about playing on Sunday and you have to treat it like any other week.”
Additionally, the Giants will work to stop Barkley, or at least not give him a big game. That, of course, could lead to more attention being focused on Barkley, and less on Brown and Eagles star receiver DeVonta Smith.
Things are going very well with Smith.
“As a receiver, that’s what you want,” Smith said. “We want people to focus on Saquon because that leaves us one-on-one.”
