Two former Auburn players left the NFL’s active rosters Tuesday. For nose tackle Montravius Adams, he’s still with the Pittsburgh Steelers, although now sidelined on injured reserve. But linebacker Chandler Wooten was canceled by the Carolina Panthers after playing a career-high 51 defensive snaps on Sunday.
Adams injured his knee in his first game in Sunday night’s 37-15 win over the New York Jets.
By moving Adams to injured reserve, the Steelers sidelined the defensive lineman for at least the next four games.
Adams had played in all seven games for Pittsburgh this season, his fourth with the Steelers since joining the team with five games remaining in the 2021 season. In the 2024 opener – an 18-10 victory over Atlanta Falcons – Adams recorded his first sack since his second NFL season with the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
Wooten’s waiver was part of a series of personnel moves by the 1-6 Panthers, who also released linebacker Marquis Haynes and waived defensive tackle TJ Smith from the NFL’s highest-scoring defense this season.
In Carolina’s 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Haynes started and Wooten made a career-high six tackles in his 20th game for the Panthers over the past three seasons.
Carolina signed linebacker Cam Gill from the Detroit Lions practice squad and defensive end Jonathan Harris from the Miami Dolphins practice squad to fill two of their vacant spots on the active roster.
