Bill Belichick takes last chance to shred Jets after Patriots win

Bill Belichick is no stranger to dunks with the New York Jets between his short tenure as head coach and losing to them during two decades with the New England Patriots.

The media world was crushing the Jets all day Monday after New York’s tough 25-22 loss to the Patriots brought both teams to 2-6. This is disastrous for the Jets, who hoped the return of Aaron Rodgers would validate their Super Bowl aspirations. Instead, New England delivered the latest disappointment to New York.

“It was great work by Jacoby and the Patriots in the end,” Belichick common on the “Pat McAfee Show” Monday. “Stevenson had a big game. Tough day for the Jets. Used all their timeouts in the first quarter, missed PAT. … Just a lot of mistakes from the Jets. It ended up killing them.

Belichick criticized edge rusher Hasson Reddick for overplaying pass lanes that allowed New England quarterbacks to scramble with space. The addition of Reddick as well as the trade for star Davante Adams still hasn’t led to a win for the Jets, further magnifying this season’s failures.

“It starts at the top and Woody Johnson started pulling the levers,” Belichick added. “They fired Saleh, which I don’t understand. …That sounds like a lot of Woody moves, I don’t really understand how they add up.

Belichick took the opportunity to tear the Jets apart again, sporting some old game balls from his Patriots days during his weekly spot on McAfee’s program.

“I had a few Jet balls on the shelf, so I thought now would be a good time to pull them out.” Belichick added.

The Patriots visit the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 while the Jets host the Houston Texans on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.
