ORCHARD PARK – Buffalo Bills Coach Sean McDermott said he and his coaches will take everything into consideration during their scouting of the Miami Dolphins as they design and perfect their game plan for Sunday’s AFC East matchup at Highmark Stadium.
But in reality, no matter what McDermott said, the Bills really don’t have anything to gain from the four games the Dolphins have played without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa went down in the third quarter of the Bills’ Week 2 win at Miami when he ducked his head trying to gain extra yards and crashed into Damar Hamlin’s hip. He suffered another concussion, a lingering issue for him, and he just returned to action last week in Miami’s 28-27 home loss to Arizona.

And despite the somewhat shocking loss, in which the Dolphins blew a 10-point lead, Miami’s explosive offense had become dangerous again after four weeks of misery while Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley played quarterback.
“We’re looking at everything,” McDermott said with a straight face. “There’s been about five games they’ve played since we’ve played them, so we watch everything. I think coach (Mike McDaniel) does a great job with his team of being really creative putting these guys in positions and making a lot of big plays. Their speed, as I said before, is unmatched in the league.
Yes, but only when Tagovailoa is at center. Without Tua, the Dolphins lost three of four games and scored just 40 points. They were blown away by the Seahawks and Titans, two teams that were blown out by Buffalo, and they also lost to the Colts and now-rookie Indy QB Anthony Richardson. Their only win came against the woefully sacked Patriots and even that was a struggle, 15-10.
Miami (2-5) comes to Buffalo, where they haven’t won since 2016, trailing the Bills (6-2) by 3 1/2 games and a loss would end any chance they have of winning the division. In fact, it may already be a lost cause, but a win would at least give the Dolphins some breathing room. So this is a game the Bills shouldn’t take lightly because desperate teams can be dangerous teams.
