The 2024 NFL season has reached what was once the halfway point, as Week 9 has arrived. Eight matches in the year, the Dallas Cowboys (3-4) have a Football Power Index (FPI) of -1.0 from ESPN, which ranks 23rd in the league.
The Atlanta Falcons (5-3), who host Dallas on Sunday, are ranked 15th with an FPI rating of 0.6.
FPI is “a prediction system for the NFL. Each team’s FPI rating is composed of the predicted efficiency of the offensive, defensive and special teams, measured by expected points added per play, and this rating is the basis for the level of game and season level projections”, according to FPI. ESPN.com. FPI “represents the number of points above or below a team’s average. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the remainder of the season using FPI, results to date and the remaining schedule.”
