Programming Note: Watch Kyle Shanahan’s full “49ers Game Plan” interview with Greg Papa at 8:30 tonight on NBC Sports Bay Area immediately following “Dubs Talk Live.”
Remember Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall’s clutch throw sweep in 49ers 30-24 Week 8 win over the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football” on NBC?
Well, it turns out the call wasn’t intended for Pearsall.
Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco coach hilariously explained how the mix-up became a big win while speaking to Greg Papa on the latest edition of NBC Sports Bay Area’s “49ers Game Plan.”
“The jet sweep was awesome,” Shanahan told Papa. “We called him to [Jacob] CowingAnd [we had] some confusion and they took opposite paths. Yeah, so Chris Conley I just finished there. And Chris, being the adult in the group, he knew it was for Jake; he and Ricky switched and went the wrong way. Chris, being a selfless, smart guy, he says, “Ricky, I bet you should take this.” So they come back and Ricky takes it.
“I was screaming all the time. And then once I saw the result. I got over it pretty quickly. »
It is safe to say things got better.
Pearsall’s run went 39 yards and put San Francisco, which led 27-17 with about seven minutes left in regulation, within field goal range. Kicker Anders Carlsonwhich was recently eliminated to make way for the return Jake Moodymade a 41-yarder to help seal the victory at Levi’s Stadium.
The Jet Sweep is the longest piece of Pearsall’s young career; It was probably a special moment for the 24-year-old and his family, considering he was shot in the chest after an autograph signing in downtown San Francisco on August 31.
The confusion produced a highlight and a feel-good moment and helped the 49ers pull out the victory. Maybe Pearsall will give Cowing the next one.
